Liverpool 2005 World Club Championship Match Shirt - with Florent Stephane Sinama Pongolle's autograph on backside

This is the second piece of World Club Championship Match Shirt I got. The first piece was Crouch #15. So why do I need to buy one extra piece? Take a look at the following match action photos first:



What's the number applied on Sinama's shirt? Clearly you can see it's 24.

But what happened during the World Club Championship?

Sinama's squad number became 11! (Look at the small numbers ironed on the shorts, 11 VS 24).
In the season 2005-2006, the squad number 11 should have been allocated to Robbie GOD Fowler.

Now let's look at the FIFA match reports for World Club Championship 2005:



Sinama's squad number is 11 instead of 24. Don't ask me why he played in an alternative number, I only know that it is an odd interesting genuine shirt.

Inspired by a lad from another soccer shirts forum, I have conducted a small research to find out WHY Sinama's squad number was changed to 11 instead of 24. Here's the interesting findings.

These are the official squads announced at FIFA website:







See? Every squad is limited to 23 players only, and the squad numbers are arranged into 1 to 23 only.

That means, players' whose original squad number is larger than 23 are altered. Sinama is not a standalone example. Here's others changes for Liverpool:

Pepe Reina - changed from 25 to 12
Stephen Warnock - changed from 28 to 2
Sinama Pongolle - changed from 24 to 11

Scott Carson - changed from 20 to 13 (though his original squad number is less than 23)

Hmmm, interesting find, but United did not have to do that for theirs in 2008. Fletcher was the same, CMIIAW.

Is this typo error or they are twins for Al Ally Sporting Club

This is another "rule-breaking" addition to the Museum.

I have always limit my collecting criteria to home / away / third shirts only, but NEVER goalkeeper shirts. Last time the rule was broken owing to the Tsunami Fundraser Memorial Match GK match shirt prepared for Sander Westerveld. This time I acquire a GK shirt again....

Before looking at the actual shirt, let's recap the first two GK shirts released under the Reebok era back in season 1996-1997:

Now let's see what I have got here....


1996-1997 Liverpool Prototype Goalkeeper Away Shirt

Interesting huh? This is a so-called factory prototype shirt. It has the same style / pattern / cutting as the orange away GK shirt shown above. The difference is the choice of Reebok motif colour in red instead of white, and the shirt's colour is ocean-green intead of orange.

Hence, this is one of the pre-production run factory prototype which are made for selection by the club, but finally discarded. It never come into actual production run and thus quite limited in quantity. However, I won't reckon prototype shirts as having a high value as match shirts, as I don't forsee there's a significant demand and market for prototypes.
