UEFA Europa League

The UEFA Cup will be renamed the UEFA Europa League from next season and the competition is set to be extended.

The new format will see 48 clubs compete in 12 groups of four with teams playing each other twice.

The top two in each group will join the eight third-placed Champions League sides in a 32-team knockout stage.

In the new system, no beaten Cup finalists will qualify for the competition, even if the winners have already qualified for the Champions League.

i tot they change it this season... this system like WC..winner of the competiton still need 2 fight for the place in the competition...quite challenging....

This is the only significant change. So now its not even harder for minnows to qualify for Europe.

haha..but they still need to qualify to the group stage for the minnow although they have the chance 2 play at uefa cup...

The UEFA Cup is becoming like a Mickey Mouse competition at present. It is an absolute joke the moment the third-place finishers from the UCL enter the competition.

Just by looking at the Quarter-Finals, half the teams came from the UCL. The quality and standard of the football is miles apart.

AC Milan vs Pompey in the Group Stages.

Man City taking on the likes of PSG & Schalke04.

Aston Villa vs Hamburg & Ajax in the Group Stages.

Spurs taking on Spartak Moscow & Udinese in the Group Stages.

Many mouth-watering ties for English football, but a pity Fratton Park is a shitte of a stadium to host the 7-times European champions.

why did they mix the language? anyone?

They want to make it sound 'european' so they use EUROPA.

But wouldn't it sound funny if it was UEFA EUROPA LIGA.

Since english is the official language in UEFA.. so no other choice.. EUROPA league..

They should come out with an official theme song like the UCL one.. have a band of choirs to sing it just like the UCL theme.. to make it more appealing.. haha
