| As the current season UCL draws closer to the finish with either Chelsea or ManU claiming the European trophy, let's look at what will be in store for the next season. Two previous champions will not be featuring in next season UCL. 7-times Champions AC Milan will be missing for the first time since the 01-02 season after finishing 5th in Serie A and 4-times Champions Ajax will have to contend playing for the UEFA Cup once again after losing in the Dutch playoff to Twente Enschede. But we welcome back Bayern Munich to the UCL next year after wrapping up their 21st German League title. | |

| looks like Porto will not be eligible for next season's UCL.... - Spoiler:
UEFA excludes PORTO from Champions League
LISBON, June 4 (Reuters) - European soccer's governing body UEFA excluded Porto from next season's Champions League on Wednesday, saying the Portuguese club had tried to influence the outcome of matches by allegedly bribing referees in the 2003-04 season.
UEFA said in a statement on its Web site that the alleged bribery case meant Porto broke its rules that ban 'any activity aimed at arranging or influencing the outcome of a match at national or international level.'
Its decision came after disciplinary action was taken last month against Porto by Portuguese soccer authorities over the case.
'The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has decided FC Porto will not be admitted to the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League after studying a matter involving alleged bribery of referees in Portuguese domestic matches in 2003/04,' UEFA said.
Porto said in a statement they would appeal against the decision. The club gave no further details and its officials were not immediately available to comment.
The decision comes after a lengthy investigation known as 'Apito Dourado,' or Golden Whistle, into alleged bribery by Porto of referees in matches in the 2003/4 season. The probe has been headline news in Portugal for several years.
Last month the Disciplinary Commission of the Professional Portuguese Football League stripped Porto of six points and fined the club 150,000 euros ($234,000) after its probe of two matches that took place in 2003/04.
Porto's management decided not to appeal against that decision on the grounds that the club had a substantial lead and the six-point punishment did not affect final standings. Porto won last season's Portuguese title for the third time in a row, 14 points ahead of Sporting.
Their president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has been suspended for two years by the Disciplinary Commission and fined 10,000 Euros in the case.
Jose Mourinho, who joined Inter Milan on Tuesday, was the Porto coach in the 2003-4 season when his side won the Champions League and Portuguese title. His name has not been mentioned during the investigation.
Boavista, who won the Portuguese championship in 2001, were also targetted in the investigation and were relegated last month to the second division and fined 180,000 euros for the offences.

| Milan could be back in UCL next year... - Spoiler:
Milan Handed Another Champions League Lifeline Milan have been handed another Champions League lifeline, as Romanian side Steaua Bucharest are on the verge of being excluded from the competition...
The Romanian side risk being thrown out of the Champions League for allegedly fixing a game in their own domestic league.
Steaua have already been penalised by the Romanian authorities and their president George Becali has been accused of match fixing. He is alledged to have paid another Romanian side $2.6 million in order to help his side to win the league.
If this is the case then, just like Porto, they would be instantly kicked out under UEFA’s zero tolerance policy regarding such matters.
Their place would then be offered to Rapid Bucarest. However, there are reports that Rapid do not want to play in the Champions League. In this case, Milan would be given the place as UEFA’s highest ranked team not already participating in the competition.
UEFA would have no choice but to award the place to the Rossoneri if Rapid snub their chance, a fact that will delight Milan fans worldwide, after it looked like the Italian giants had thrown away their Champions League prospects for next season.
The Rossoneri failed to qualify for the competition after finishing fifth in Serie A, following a less than vintage campiagn by their high standards.
The club now has the chance to jump straightback into the driving seat as they look to use UEFA's rule book to wriggle their way back into the European big time. http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=725056

| ermmm.. im not sure if this really gonna happen but i would still prefer milan to play in uefa cup next season...they dont deserved to be in the champions league... uefa cup is the best thing to make galliani, braida and berlusconi realized all of their mistakes for not buying new and younger player last summer that was one of the few reason that cost milan their champions league spot in the first place.. plus uefa cup is the perfect platform for milan team rebuilding.. after all, uefa cup is the only cup milan have never won...
and im sure most of other team fan would say milan bribe their way to champions league or if not they'll say milan were lucky to be in the CL next season if this thing really happen..

| No Champions League Chance For Milan - UEFA - Spoiler:
Milan’s hopes of playing in the Champions League next term have been dashed after UEFA Confirmed they have no chance of being given a place.
The Rossoneri were hoping they would be able to squeeze themselves into the competition after both Porto and CSKA Sofia were kicked out of the competition after breaking various UEFA guidelines.
Reports in Italy claimed the Rossoneri had a great chance of being given a place in next season’s competition. However, UEFA have revealed that there is no chance of this happening. “It is absolutely impossible that Milan play in next season’s Champions League,” said UEFA spokesman, William Gaillard. “The participants are not chosen based on the highest co-efficient but on the number of teams a country is allowed to enter. “Therefore there is no possibility whatsoever of Milan playing in the Champions League next season.” Milan will have to settle for the UEFA Cup as expected. Failure to qualify for the Champions League was down to Milan’s own downfall following a less than perfect campaign.

| Toughest IMO is Group D. As a Man Utd fan myself.. I think Villareal and Celtic can be tough opponents as well.. Haven't really got the glimpse of the danish champions playing style. So can't really comment on Aalborg BK. If they are the champions..then it's not going to be an easy ride a well.. | |

| I'm really impress with Aguero kun as he netted a brace for Atletico win over PSV. There are certaintly one of the dark horse in this tournament in my books. It is not easy feat to beat PSV at their own turf as over the years they have made to the knock out phase on a consistent basis. | |

| The game against Marseille indicates that it won't be that easy to get points from one another. If Liverpool can get 10 points it is most likely to secure us through to the knock out phase. It would be great if Rafa can sign Kun Aguero to play along side Torres. That combination would be mouth watering. | |

There were many errors at the defence, but the side was also disappointing in attack and has now picked up one point from two Serie A games and this 2-1 European loss!... the fact remains that they need to do better and work hard to fight their way back into the group!

| Roma are back after a 3-1 win away to 10-man Bordeaux with Julio Baptista's brace and a Mirko Vucinic header. both Giallorossi goalscorers were celebrating their birthday, but once again this team shows psychological problems when running into difficulties, as they were dismal until the equaliser. Douglas Maicon scored a delightful goal and hit the post, but Inter were still held 1-1 by Werder Bremen at San Siro. | |

I believe LFC should be able to ... lets wait and see. Next match is the key .... IF with yesterday type of performance, I suppose 10 points should not be a problem. Really looking forward for Torress to goal in the next match against his ex-club. But if both Aguero and Torress together in the same team might not be a good thing. You can see in last Euro when both Torress and Villa at the same Spain team, one of them might not be perform. When Villa in, Torress is not perform and so the other way ....

| I think the surprise package thus far is the Romanian minnows Cluj who won their first game and held Chelsea to a nil-all draw in the second. They played with alot of determination to make up for the lack in skills and star players but I think the most they'd make it to the 2nd round. as for Liverpool, well, despite being a big fan of theirs, a wise of saying - don't expect anything! the typical Liverpool way is they win when you don't expect them to and lose when you least expect it. i think this season the players are starting to gel well together and enjoying the football they are playing. Gerrard's post-match interview sums it up: " the lads are playing good football, are winning and the confidence is high and they are looking to the next game." Arsenal & Man Utd are cruising at the moment and I don't think we'd see them slipping up at the group stages. | |
