| World Cup 2010Beckham ruled out of World CupMarch 14, 2010 By Soccernet staffDavid Beckham's England career could be over after a torn Achilles tendon ruled him out of this summer's World Cup. Beckham sustained the injury without coming into contact with anyone else, limping to the sidelines for treatment in the dying moments of AC Milan's 1-0 victory over Chievo before leaving the San Siro on crutches. Milan coach Leonardo said after the game: "Beckham's injury makes us feel terrible. He is an extraordinary guy and today's game proves it yet again. "David understood immediately that he had torn his Achilles tendon. When the tendon breaks, everything comes away and the muscle starts to rise. I felt great pity for him. This injury has been a heavy blow for him and for us. Unfortunately the party is ruined." Initial reports suggested the England midfielder would be out for around three months but the club's physio has since revealed he expects the player to spend five to eight months on the sidelines. Beckham has already spoken to Fabio Capello and his assistant, Franco Baldini, over the news that he will miss out on the chance to play in his fourth World Cup. AC Milan midfielder Ignazio Abate said: "Beckham is not well. To see him suffer like that has really touched us." Clarence Seedorf found it hard to celebrate his last-gasp match-winning goal - which puts Milan just one point behind Inter in Serie A - knowing that Beckham could have a long injury lay-off. "It's always ugly to be out because of an injury, but it will mean that we will all need to give everything we have even for those who will not be with us," he said. "They deserve that for what they have done so far this season." Milan have revealed that Beckham is set to fly to Finland on Monday for an operation on the problem. His parent club, LA Galaxy, are understood to be awaiting further news on the incident before issuing a statement on his future. Source: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/story/_/id/755991/ce/uk/?cc=4716&ver=global----- his playing career might also be over, not just England... hopefully he'll recover sooner than expected... gotta complete my Project: BECKHAM soon... | |

| Sad for Becks for potentially missing out on World Cup 2010.. As someone who had an injury myself 10 years ago (cruciate ligament near the left knee) I know how frustrating and painful the experience is... From what I read.. he tore his Achilles tendon and I suspected that the tendon he injured is the one connecting to his calf from his ankle. This is after seeing how he grabbed the back of his leg and where the pain was: Then I searched at wiki and found out it is indeed the tendon that connects between the ankle and the calf muscle: Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achilles_tendon That is a very painful....... ouch! | |

| Thats cause he was an unused substitute for the Egypt game. means the shirt never grace the field if it's something the perfectionists here are concerned. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=285674&cc=3436&league=FIFA.FRIENDLY Reli feel sad for him, it means so much to him to make the WC squad, i pity him more than Owen for missing the chance to be in the squad | |

| Yeah definately sad news, but at least he managed to make his return to Old Trafford and recieve the reception he deserved. Imagine had he done that a week earlier...
Beckham 18 does sound pretty tasty for the LS England away now though...
Hope isnt not the end of him professionally, too many have to retire prematurely over the years due to injury.

| dont think there will be chance for him although i really hope he makes a miraculous recovery. Achilles tendon takes 3-4 months to heal and knowing capello he wont take a person that just came back from injury. EURO2012 for becks next target | |

| if he does somehow recovers in time and is fit enough to play, i would bring him along if i am Capello. All England need of him is not for the entire matches, just 20-25 minutes will do. Look what he did when he came on against Man Utd.
For me, his crosses and vision is still far superior and consistent than and the dazzling runs Aaron Lennon or Theo Walcott could conjure up, that if they are fit to begin with.
and to rub salt to wound for any Becks fan, ESPN Sportscenter had a picture of Becks in pain as their Canon Picture of the Day contest to make fun of.

| yup...agree with u iswandi...his crossing n freekicks n corner kicks are far better than other england player...im not saying that others not good.but becks is more experience...maybe he can be supersub..only if he's fully fit n capello pick him for the WC squad.... | |

| hahaa bro...just realise it that Adam Johnson is indeed English. Great for England then. This kid got the footballing brain and a talented left foot.
Edward, yup i too vote for Lennon ahead of Walcott and Milner. Lennon is much more consistent and seems to know what he is doing. Theo on the other hand somehow lacks the footballer instincts. While Milner can drifts out of the game far too often than could he change it.
if i am Capello, i would just copy what Sir Alex is doing for Man Utd in Europe. Play Rooney alone upfront. With both Gerrard and Carrick sitting deep while Lampard sits behind Rooney with Lennon and another speedy lefty ply down the wings.
